OUR PROJECTS

Here everyone matters!

Who are we?

EDU-CAMPUS CONCORDIA is an educational program implemented by the Organizația Umanitară CONCORDIA, an international, independent non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting children, young people and families in need, towards a more independent and responsible life.

EDU-CAMPUS CONCORDIA is an innovative example, unique in Romania, that offers education and training services for children and young people from vulnerable backgrounds. The educational model we implement is based on a holistic approach that includes the social, emotional plan, personalized interventions in accordance with the needs and wishes of students and young people.

Our motto: Here everyone matters!

Our Story

The story of the place where EDU-CAMPUS is located now begins in 2001 when CONCORDIA ”Children’s Town” was established near the city of Ploiești, a welcoming place where 86 children initially lived in 7 family-type houses.

Because over time we noticed that the social and professional integration of the young people leaving the placement centers was difficult, and the future of the young people “beyond the gates” was a difficult one, in 2010 we established CONCORDIA Vocational School in next to C.O.C. houses. Preparing youth for 5 professions (baker, waiter, cook, carpenter and horticulturist), since the beginning this school aimed at the social reintegration of young people and the development of their skills to build an independent life. Later, in 2021, the carpentry course was abandoned because this specialization was not preferred by young people.

Operating in a new building, Casa ABRAHAM Youth Residential Center, the Vocational School is equipped with practical workshops, accommodation for young people and various rooms for conducting courses and activities.

Two years later, in March 2011, CONCORDIA Bakery was open nearby, a social business which also welcomes Vocational School students from the bakery course for training and then for employment.

And because we are always attentive to the needs of our beneficiaries, after years in which we understood better and better what are the problems they face when they are on their own, in 2021 we are ready to open the first center of privately managed transit in the area. Its purpose is to help young people who have completed Vocational School courses in the first months of independent life or other young people from disadvantaged backgrounds at a standstill, providing affordable accommodation services to an employee in the first months.

We have also noticed that it is early education that can make a difference in the destiny of young people. We dreamed that we could offer more to children from disadvantaged backgrounds: an inclusive school for all children, where everyone’s needs matter equally. And because we believed in this dream and fed it with hope and a lot of work, in 2014 we started to lay the foundations of the CONCORDIA Primary School which opened its doors in September of 2020.

The year 2021 brought a new important milestone in the development of the campus with the opening of the Youth Transit Center in August. The purpose of the Transit Center is the integration and socio-professional reintegration of young people who leave the social protection system, as well as the development of independent life skills, through the specific services offered: accommodation for a fixed period of at least 6 months, counseling and social insertion, psychological counseling and emotional support, vocational guidance and counseling for keeping a job, socialization and cultural activities. The center’s facilities provide the opportunity to make the transition to an independent life for 25 young people, ensuring independent living conditions in two or three-bed rooms with their own bathroom, food preparation and meal service conditions, self-catering conditions and support for registering with a doctor of the family in order to benefit from the medical services provided by the state.

With three major ongoing socio-educational projects, the campus wants to be a model of innovation in Romanian education and to offer education at European standards to children and young people, regardless of their background.

Educational Model

The educational model that we promote and implement in the Edu-Campus projects focuses on the interests of the children and young people in our care. Starting with the careful selection of staff, continuing with the arrangement of spaces and the provision of modern resources to make the educational process easy, every corner of the campus offers new learning opportunities.

“Case management” is an innovative method integrated into the concept of every project on campus: a multi-disciplinary team made up of all the staff that interacts with the students (teachers, director, nurse, psychologist, etc.) discusses the situation of each student individually. Where possible also with the involvement of the parent, the team periodically analyzes the development of each student and plans the best individual development path for him, taking into account both his talents and needs.

Acting Principles
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

A SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS

We want to become a sustainable campus, where caring for the environment represents a value that is reflected in every project and initiative we implement. We have defined strategic goals aligned with the global Sustainable Development Goals and we are transferring our way of working to every generation of young people and children who are educated in our campus.

On our campus, we pick and choose what to gather, recycle, use natural resources with care, and learn and play in and with nature, which we have a lot of respect for.
